‘Not aware of that’ - Bangladesh batting coach on Murali Karthik’s claim of Shakib Al Hasan's injury

Bangladesh batting coach David Hemp noted that he isn’t aware that the star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is playing against India with a finger injury. The former Bangladesh captain bowled only 21 overs in the first Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, proving extremely expensive. During one of his overs in the third innings, former India cricketer Murali Karthik mentioned that the veteran was carrying an injury, which affected his bowling.

In the first innings of the game, Shakib bowled only eight overs and conceded 50 runs. In the second, he bowled 13 overs and leaked 79 runs without success. Karthik stated that his bowling finger was swollen and rigid and that the cricketer was also disturbed by a shoulder injury, which is why he bowled less as well.

“He's had a finger surgery on his bowling finger which is the point of his finger of his left hand. It is swollen, it is rigid, there's no movement no suppleness to it. Also, he is having issues with his shoulder so it's a combination of both," Murali Karthik had said while commentating on the game.

Reflecting upon that, Hemp said that he wasn’t familiar with Shakib’s injury details and wouldn’t be possible for him to share any updates.

“No, not aware of that at all, sorry,” Bangladesh's batting coach said.

It’s still a good wicket: Hemp

Bangladesh need 515 runs in the final innings to win the first Test of the series. It’s a mountain to climb but the visitors have shown character with the bat. Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam gave the team a good start on Day 3, while captain Najmul Shanto scored an unbeaten half-century and will be crucial for the team in the chase. Meanwhile, Hemp addressed that the wicket is very good for the batters to do well but he understands that the quality India bowlers can challenge them on Day 4 of the Test.

“In terms of days to bat, it's still a good wicket. Today, we've seen that (Ravichandran) Ashwin obviously got a couple of balls to bounce quite significantly. But, if you still miss, you can still score. So for us tomorrow, it's still a reasonable surface. Obviously, we're playing against India, who possess some quality bowling, a very confident side, especially playing at home. So, you're going to be challenged,” Hemp concluded.
