David Warner to headline Cayman Islands' new T10 cricket league

With a veteran batter David Warner signed up for the tournament, the Cayman Islands’ MAX60 Caribbean League tournament could prove to be a blessing for the T10 format. With the backing of the Caribbean boards and a sanction by the ICC (International Cricket Council), the tournament is expected to be a huge success. 

The competition is all set to kick off on Sunday, August 18, and will consist of six teams that will face off in 25 matches across eight days. The sides competing will be the T10 Abu Dhabi Champions, New York Strikers, Caribbean Giants, Grand Cayman Stingrays, Boca Raton Trailblazers, and Miami Lions, respectively.

Alongside David Warner, the likes of Thisara Perera, Sikandar Raza, Dwayne Bravo, and Alex Hales are some of the players who are part of the MAX60 tournament. Recently, the competition’s chief executive, Dario Barthley, took centre stage and talked about how the players' payments are in line with other tournaments across the globe.

"(Player Payments) are in line with similar leagues globally, (The payments) ensured major international players could be secured alongside some amazing emerging talent internationally and Cayman local players, 15 of whom will be paid higher than ever before,” Barthley was quoted as saying by Forbes.

Furthermore, he also talked about the signing of David Warner into the tournament and what it means for the competition. Moreover, he believes that the local players of the Island nation will get to learn a lot from the legendary Australian. The MAX60 is aimed at showcasing the passion for cricket in the Cayman Islands behind a glorious backdrop.

"David Warner is a huge signing and association for this league, I mean, he has done all there is to do in T20 cricket and we are blessed to have him endorse this league and display his talent for the people of the Cayman Islands and the world,” the Chief Executive of MAX60 further stated. 

 "The Cayman Islands actually has quite a rich cricketing culture, both among locals and the expatriate community, everywhere you go, people tell you about the days when all the big West Indies players used to visit,” Barthley concluded.
