Australia and Sri Lanka are locking horns in Match 14 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Monday, October 16 in Lucknow. Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis has won the toss and elected to bat first which was vindicated by his openers Pathum Nissanka (61 off 67) and Kusal Perera (78 off 82) who added 125 runs for the first wicket.
Seeing the game slipping away from his team, captain Pat Cummins brought himself on and immediately drew the first blood for Australia. The right-arm seamer bowled a short delivery to Nissanka which the batter pulled towards deep mid-wicket. David Warner, who was stationed on the boundary, ran towards his left and completed a spectacular diving catch to give his team the first breakthrough.
Further ahead in the innings, he took another catch in the same place as Australia managed to get the prized scalp of in-form Kusal Mendis. The Sri Lankan skipper swept a tossed-up delivery towards deep mid-wicket where Warner once again completed a brilliant catch running to his left.

The Australian opener rolled over multiple times after getting hold of the ball but thankfully for Australia he didn’t hurt himself. As a result, Mendis departed for 9 (13) leaving his side on 165/3 after 28 overs. Sri Lanka lost one more wicket before rain interrupted play and the match had to be stopped with Sri Lanka on 178/4 after 32.1 overs.

Sri Lanka suffered a dramatic collapse
While the players were leaving the field, Warner once again won hearts as he was spotted helping the ground staff bring the covers on to the field. Once the play resumed, Sri Lanka suffered a dramatic collapse as they were left reeling at 199/8. Sadeera Samarawickrama (8 off 8), Dhananjaya de Silva (7 off 13), and Dunith Wellalage (2 off 9) fell cheaply as Adam Zampa spun a web around them.
