The 50th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the David Warner-led Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, May 6. After winning the toss, Bangalore elected to bat first.
The side got off to a good start to the game as ace Indian batter Virat Kohli scored his sixth half-century of the IPL 2023, and 50th of the tournament overall. Furthermore, skipper Faf du Plessis amassed 45 runs to his name as well. However, after the dismissals of du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell, Indian all-rounder Mahipal Lomror took strike and rose to the occasion.
The 23-year-old scored a quickfire half century, amassing 54* runs in just 29 deliveries to his name, maintaining a strike rate of 186.21. Lomror’s blitzkrieg proved to be crucial for Bangalore in posting 181 runs on the board after the first innings.
Delhi Capitals defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore by seven wickets
Having posted 181 runs on the board, Bangalore looked to be in cruise control of the game. Considering the recent form of Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023, the David Warner-led side geared up for a seemingly mammoth run chase. However, English batter Phil Salt came in all guns blazing in the second innings.
Following yet another subpar showing from Warner, where the veteran Australian batter was dismissed for 22 runs in just 14 balls, Salt played a marvellous knock to propel Delhi to a win. The 26-year-old scored 87 runs in just 45 deliveries and dismantled the bowling attack of the visitors. Furthermore, Mitchell Marsh scored 26 runs in 17 deliveries, and Rilee Rossouw remained unbeaten at 35 runs in 22 deliveries as Delhi won the game by seven wickets.
After their win, Delhi moved up to ninth place in the IPL points table with eight points in 10 games. On the other hand, Bangalore finds themselves in fifth place with 10 points in just as many games.
