The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued a notice to Delhi Police in order to register an FIR over the abusive posts on Shubman Gill's sister, Shahneel. The DCW chief, Swati Maliwal, has taken heed of the matter and asked the police to provide a detailed report on the action regarding the case by May 26.

The unfortunate incident came to light following the match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday, May 21. Notably, it was Shubman’s splendid century that steered the Titans to clinch the crucial two points and as a result, RCB were eliminated from the IPL 2023.

Following the conclusion of the match, Shubman’s sister, Shahneel was targeted by certain social media users with abusive posts and further issued threats. With this, the DCW chief, Swati Maliwal, issued a notice to the police citing 'obscene, misogynistic, threatening and extremely abusive online posts' directed towards Shahneel Gill.

Previously we had initiated action against people abusing Virat Kohli's daughter: Maliwal

Furthermore, the DCW chief minced no words and called this brutal attack on Gill's sisters via social media a ridiculous and unjust criminal offence. Moreover, she also reminded of Virat Kohli's case whose little daughter was targeted rather shamefully. Even the fans stood in full support of the players deeming these trollers as totally insensitive.

“She is also being threatened of rape and assault on social media which is an outrightly criminal act,” the DCW chief was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

In addition, the DCW chief has asked for swift action to be taken on the online trolls and a report to be prepared as soon as possible. On Monday, May 22, Swati Maliwal took to her Twitter handle to share a series of tweets from the abusers and vowed to take action for the insensitive comments passed on Gill’s sister.

“Extremely shameful to see trollers abusing #ShubhmanGill’s sister just because the team they follow lost a match. Previously we had initiated action against people abusing #ViratKohli daughter…DCW will take action against all those who have abused Gill’s sister as well,” Maliwal tweeted.

An official report is likely to be submitted by the police to the DCW chief in this regard. On the other hand, Shubman and his sister, Shahneel, have decided to not speak on the matter publicly as the police have taken the matter into their hands.
