The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has invited bids to own the various franchises which will take part in the inaugural edition of its T20 leagues for men's and women's cricketers titled 'Delhi Premier League'.

The DDCA released a 'Notice Inviting Tender' (NIT) to invite bidders on team franchises as the brand new tournament is proposed to commence in August/September 2024. As the Indian domestic season starts later this year, the cricket governing body is aiming to finish the league before September 15 to give their players enough time to make their preparations.

The first season of the Delhi Premier League is set to feature six teams each for the men's and women's teams. They will compete in two separate leagues under a round-robin format and the eventual winners will be decided after the playoffs and the finals. The DDCA reserves the right to alter the number of teams participating in the league as it may deem appropriate from time to time.

Interested parties will have to put up a minimum bid of INR 25,00000 (twenty-five lakh) and after evaluations, the qualified bidders will have to give a presentation before the final decision is taken. The final date for the submission of bids is July 15.

"We are going ahead with the league. The modalities are being worked out. But the aim is to start the league by the end of Aug and finish it before Sept 15 so that it leaves enough time to prepare for the BCCI's domestic season," DDCA president Rohan Jaitley had said in an interview with TOI last week.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) recently organized the first-ever Bengal Pro T20 League featuring eight men's teams and as many women's teams. The competition gained decent popularity as several talented players made good use of the opportunity. DDCA would hope to achieve similar success as they look to usher in a new era of franchise cricket in the Capital.
