The Indian national women’s team suffered a loss in the Tri-Series final to South Africa on Thursday, February 2nd. The South African bowlers put up an impressive show as the Women in Blue just managed a below par total of 109 in 20 overs, which the Proteas were able to chase as they won the game by five wickets.

Despite the defeat, Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma was pleased with the team's efforts throughout the series. She also insisted that the team will take the positives from this series into the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The World Cup is right around the corner, as it is scheduled to begin on February 10.

Harleen Deol, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Deepti Sharma were the top performers with the bat for the Indian team, as Deol’s knock of 46 helped the team set three-figure target on the scoreboard. The target seemed to be of no problem to South Africa as Chloe Tyron’s knock of 57 off 32 helped them sail through quite comfortably.

There are lots of positives from the series: Sharma

After the loss to South Africa, Deepti Sharma emphasized that it is significant that team India take the positives from this loss going into the upcoming T20 World Cup. She further stated that if the team focused on the things they did right, they can do even better.

"There are lots of positives from the series; we did well as a bowling and batting unit. We have to just carry on these things in the World Cup as well, whether we play England or any other team; we have to just focus on the things we did well here and continue doing that over there as well."

"Obviously, South Africa has home conditions. But, as a team, we must carry forward what we did well in the Tri-Series and focus on our own team and what we can do better rather than the opposition," the all-rounder said in the post-match press-conference.
