'Deviating from his traditional approach & attitude' - Twitter erupts as Ajinkya Rahane explodes against RCB
The veteran batter smashed 37 off 20 with three fours and two sixes to give Chennai a sensational start against Bangalore.
Ajinkya Rahane produced another sensational knock to give Chennai Super Kings a flying start against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 24th IPL match on Monday, April 17. The veteran batter came to bat at no. 3 after the early dismissal of Ruturaj Gaikwad and stunned the crowd at M Chinnaswamy Stadium to showcase his worth again.
Chennai Super Kings seemed struggling for big shots with just 25 runs from the first four overs. But Rahane took very little time to accelerate his innings as he smashed a six in the fifth over which hit Chinnaswamy's roof. He scored three more boundaries in the sixth over to drag Chennai to 53/1 in the powerplay overs.
Devon Conway also accelerated from another end as the duo added a 74-run stand for the second wicket. Wanindu Hasaranga gave Bangalore a breakthrough with Rahane's wicket in the 10th over while he attempted an ambitious shot. Rahane scored 37 off 20 with the help of three fours and two sixes as Bangalore posted 97/2 in ten overs.
Rahane smashed the fastest fifty of IPL 2023 on his debut for Chennai Super Kings and smashed 31 off 19 against Rajasthan Royals in his previous game. Rahane has scored 129 runs in just three innings at a strike rate of 195.45 so far. He now holds the record for maintaining the highest strike rate with 100-plus runs scored in powerplay overs.
Chennai Super Kings batters continued the momentum after Rahane's dismissal with Shivam Dube and Conway smashing quick fifties. The Kiwi opener ended his poor run of form by producing his first fifty of this season as he smashed 83 off just 45 and Dube added 52 off 27 to help Chennai score 226/6.
