Pakistan captain Babar Azam has enjoyed the hospitality received in India so far that he’s forgotten that their team is away from home. Notably, Pakistan arrived in Hyderabad on September 28 ahead of their two warm up fixtures vs New Zealand and Australia.
“It was very good. We got great hospitality, we were not expecting this. Everyone enjoyed it, it’s been a week in Hyderabad. It doesn’t feel like we’re in India but it feels like we’re at home. We enjoyed every bit of it. It’s a golden opportunity for everyone to give their 100 percent and enjoy the tournament,” said Babar at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Captain’s Round table.
Babar Azam will be coming into the World Cup as the World’s number-one ODI batter and will look to lead his team from the front with a marvellous show from his bat. The Pakistan batter finished as the highest run scorer for his side in the previous edition having scored 474 runs from eight innings at an average of 67.71 with one hundred and three fifties to his name. It was also the most number of runs scored by a Pakistan batter in a single World Cup edition.
The Pakistan skipper is once again looking in great form ahead of the tournament as he played magnificent knocks of 80 (84) and 90 (59) in the two warm up matches so far. The Pakistan skipper will look to continue his form and help his side script history by winning their second-ever ODI World Cup on Indian soil.
Pakistan to start their World Cup campaign with a game against Netherlands
Meanwhile, Pakistan didn’t get their tournament off to a good start as they lost both of their warm-up fixtures vs New Zealand and Australia at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. They will lock horns with the Netherlands in their first league game on Friday, October 06 at the same venue. Following that, they will take on Sri Lanka on October 10 followed by a game against arch-rivals India on October 14.
