‘Didn’t know this was a press conference’ – Livid Mark Waugh expresses displeasure during on-air verbal spat with Dinesh Karthik

Mark Waugh and Dinesh Karthik were involved in an on-air verbal spat during the second Test between India and Australia. The former cricketers are a part of the official broadcaster's commentary panel for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

During the course of the second Test match, they differed from each other's opinions. Waugh opened up about his dissatisfaction with the field set by Australia captain Pat Cummins to Cheteshwar Pujara. However, back-to-back counter questions from Karthik irked the former Australia opener.

During the fourth innings of the second Test match, Waugh said that instead of a deep point for Pujara, Cummins should have brought the fielder inside the circle to pack the off side.

After Mark's remarks, Karthik said, "So you are unhappy with the field. There is nobody for Rohit Sharma, you are okay with that. Would you do the same as a captain?"

The former Australia opener then replied, "I am not talking about Rohit Sharma, he is a completely different player DK. We obviously think different. But I want to pack that off side for Pujara, think there is a big chance of getting, squeezing one there."

"I want to pack that offside, have my point up, have the catching cover stay there... reasonable field," he added.

"Really, you don't think he would have found the trap in that one. He had time,” Karthik said. 

Seemingly annoyed by Karthik, Waugh said: "I didn't know this was a press conference. You are going to get one question per session, right?"

But before things could have gone out of hand Sanjay Manjrekar intervened and said, "Okay, I am going to step in here."

India's dominance continues

India defeated Australia by six wickets in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. The visitors posted 263 runs in their first innings while India scored 262. The batting line-up of the Cummins-led side then collapsed as they were bundled out for 113 in their second innings. Chasing a target of 115, Rohit Sharma and Co. comfortably won the match and have retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
