In the highly anticipated ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Oval in London, Australia triumphed over India, inflicting a heartbreaking loss. Australia, who showed dominance throughout every aspect of the game, claimed the battle, which spanned from June 7 to June 11, with a thumping 209-run victory over India.

At the end of Day 4, India were 164/3 in a bid for a 444-run target set by Australia. Scott Boland's consistency proved to be too hot to handle as he picked Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja in the same over, providing Australia with an excellent beginning on Day 5.

Following this, Rahane fired a couple of shots before being dismissed by Mitchell Starc for 46 runs. Shardul Thakur, who had a half-century in the first innings, was not able to come to the party in the second. The wickets went on crashing down, and Nathan Lyon struck the decisive blow that secured Australia the victory.

In the same vein, Dinesh Karthik, the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman for India and RCB, expressed his opinion on the potential lineup alterations and the significance of cultivating talent. The 38-year-old outlined specific individuals who have been creating a buzz in domestic cricket in India while evaluating the future replacements for the forthcoming Test squad.

"No. 1 Yashasvi Jaiswal. He has had a phenomenal domestic season. Are we going to find a place for him? No. 2 Sarfaraz Khan. Now that's been a big name doing the rounds for some time now in the middle order. If you want to fit him in, who are you going to leave out and then be followed by the Mukesh Kumars and the rest of them, is there a place for a new medium pacer to come in and stamp his authority over a period of time? Are you going to give him that two-year cycle?" Karthik told on Cricbuzz.

Umesh and Shardul as bowlers weren't as effective as Dravid and Rohit would have thought it to be: Karthik

The RCB batter voiced his opinion, adding that the bowling section was a source of contention. He had concerns over Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur's success as bowlers while applauding Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj.

"Let's be very honest. I think Shami and Siraj were very good. But Umesh and Shardul as bowlers weren't as effective as Dravid and Rohit would have thought it to be. So, yes Shardul contributed with the bat. But are we always going to look at him as a bowler who can bat or a pure all-rounder. I would think more as a bowler who can bat. And Umesh, where do you see him in the context of things?" Karthik added.

Meanwhile, India suffered a defeat against the Kiwis during the maiden WTC 2019–21 Championship encounter at Southampton's Rose Bowl.
