Discussion begins between Shreyas Iyer and KKR ahead of IPL 2025 retention deadline

The deadline for the submission of the retention list of the various IPL (Indian Premier League) franchises is nearing, and the various 10 franchises are still in the process of deciding which players they will retain ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. One such side has been the IPL 2024 champions Kolkata Knight Riders.
Ahead of the deadline, reports have emerged that dialogue has commenced between KKR and Shreyas Iyer regarding the retention. It is also worth noting that the report mentioned that there was no conversation between the two parties before the weekend.
"As of last Friday, the two parties hadn't spoken. There was a lot of word going around on Shreyas Iyer and KKR but the two never sat across the table to have any discussion with regards to the plans for future or the IPL retentions. The first conversation happened on Sunday," a source in the know was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Iyer led KKR successfully to IPL title glory in 2024
Some reports also stated that while Kolkata Knight Riders had Iyer in their plans in regard to retention, he was not going to be the first person to be retained. Sources in the know came forward and revealed that it took KKR weeks to initiate any kind of conversation with Iyer.

“Iyer won a title last season, has been a proven leader when he successfully led Delhi Capitals. He has been a hot property in the league and it's no surprise there were approaches from multiple franchise the moment KKR chose to take a backseat. If he goes into the auction pool, there will be at least three franchises who would be looking to get him. Indian middle-order bat, proven leader. Who would want to miss that combination? Not many," the source said.
Having won the IPL 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders have too many stars in their arsenal that they would love to retain ahead of the new season. However, with the deadline nearing, the three-game champions will have to make a decision on their retentions soon.
