Yuvraj Singh, who shared the Indian dressing room with both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, urged them to play in the second phase of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. The former India cricketer highlighted the importance of domestic cricket, asserting that players should take the opportunity to play for their respective state sides.
Rohit and Kohli's places in India's Test side have come under scrutiny after the two stalwarts had a forgettable outing in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Against the potent Australian bowling attack, Rohit and Virat managed to score 31 (five innings) and 190 runs (nine innings), respectively. The Asian giants lost the series by a 1-3 margin to relinquish the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in 10 years.
"Domestic cricket is important. I have always felt if you have time and if you are not performing, you should definitely come and play domestic cricket. "That is the best way to get practice and game time. I feel domestic cricket is very important if you have the time and if you are not injured," Yuvraj was quoted as saying by India Today on Thursday.
Kohli was named amongst Delhi's probables for the remainder of the Ranji Trophy, while Rohit trained with Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad. However, there has not been any official confirmation regarding their participation in the forthcoming round of the Ranji Trophy.
