On his India return, senior batter Ajinkya Rahane hit 89 runs to help India post 296 runs on board in the finals of the World Test Championship against Australia. When the entire top order failed to step up, Rahane remained calm, showed a lot of composure and along with Shardul Thakur, built a very crucial partnership which gave India some hope in the middle.
Notably, during his stay at the crease, Australian bowlers came hard at Rahane and courtesy of which, the 35-year-old suffered a lot of body blows. He hurt his finger in the process but according to the cricketer, it won’t bother him while batting in the second innings.
Rahane, who was out of the Test side for an extended period of time, has already proved himself in the middle but aspires to get better. He also added that the team was looking to get to 320-330 but he is content with where they are at the end of Day 3.
“Painful but quite manageable (blow to his finger). Don’t think it’ll affect batting," Rahane told broadcasters when asked about his injury. “Happy with the way I batted. Had a good today. We were looking to get 320-330 but overall we had a good day,” he added.
Still feel wicket will help seam bowlers: Rahane
India not playing Ravichandran Ashwin in the WTC final is still a very hot topic, especially with the ball turning on Day 3. However, Rahane, who helped in leading India to success in the historic Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2020-21 down under, believes that the wicket will still help the pacers in the remaining two days. The middle order batter also lauded Ravindra Jadeja for his excellent spell towards the fag end of Day 3.
“Bowling wise we bowled well. Everyone chipped in. Jadeja bowled really well, footmarks helped him against the left-hander. Still feel wicket will help seam bowlers,” Rahane mentioned.
Meanwhile, Australia are leading by 296 runs after Day 3. India need something special on the field to turn things around and the senior batters will have to take a lot of responsibility to get the job done.
