Australia to play a three-match T20I series against Scotland, starting September 4 ahead of their marquee tour to England. In the T20 World Cup, the Mitchell Marsh-led side faced a tough competition against Scotland but managed to get the job done in the final over of the game. Keeping that in mind, Marsh noted that Scotland can prove to be a difficult side to beat and added that they have improved a lot in recent times.
The Richie Bennington-led side will start as underdogs but they have the capability to cause an upset, especially as Australia have given rest to multiple key players of theirs. The likes of Cameron Green, Travis Head, Tim David and Marcus Stoinis will be available for selection but the pace trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood have been rested. Meanwhile, David Warner retired and Steve Smith is no longer in contention.
Despite so, Marsh noted that it is not a reset but is excited to give opportunities to some youngsters who have proved themselves in domestic cricket. He also noted it would be a great series as Scotland have many senior cricketers on their side and will be playing at their home.
“I think, yeah, it's spoken about a lot, but Scotland are a good cricket team. And they've improved a lot over the last little period of time and they're gonna provide a good challenge for us. So I think it's gonna be a great series,” Marsh said in the pre-match press conference.

“I don't think it's a reset. I think there's certainly opportunity for guys to come in and get their opportunity, but yeah, I wouldn't say it's a reset,” he said when asked about the reset.
Meanwhile, this will be the first time that Australia play a T20I series after Warner’s retirement. Speaking of which, Marsh stated that the players miss him in the dressing room and he hopes that the youngsters in the team can learn from his illustrious career.
“It's different. Davey was obviously one of our best to ever do it and he always brought so much experience and no matter who he played against, he was always up for the challenge of playing cricket for Australia and I think that's probably something that our young guys can learn from but he'll always be missed,” Marsh said.
