‘Dreamt of scoring an Ashes Test hundred as a kid’ - Tammy Beaumont opens up after magnificent Trent Bridge ton

Courtesy of a magnificent century by Tammy Beaumont, England remained solid at the close of Day 2 of the Women's Ashes Test after Australia posted a humongous first innings total of 437 at the Trent Bridge. Following the conclusion of the day’s play, centurion Beaumont opened up on her stellar innings and expressed that it was her dream to score a Test ton since 2005.

The Three Lions faced an uphill task after Australia's massive score on the board, and Beaumont took the onus to carve out an invaluable knock for her side. The opener remained unbeaten on 100 runs at the close of day's play. She expressed her delight on helping her side remain on level terms against the Aussies. 

"It feels pretty good. There were probably moments where I thought I wasn't going to face enough balls to get there tonight it's put the team in a good position going into tomorrow so hopefully we can bat long tomorrow and that's what it's all about at the minute,” Beaumont was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

"For me, it's all about whether I contribute to the team so if we win this Test match and we go on to win, I think it will be right up there. Let's wait and see. It's great to tick it off and yes, as a kid, I dreamt of scoring an Ashes Test hundred. Pretty much since 2005, that probably has been my goal but as I've gone on, for me, it's about contributing to the team,” she added.

Notably, Beaumont made massive strides after she had been excluded from the setup in the T20 side for the Commonwealth Games and T20 World Cup last year. Speaking about the match, England concluded with a score of 218 runs, trailing by 255 runs on Day 2 and will be looking to score big on the following day. Meanwhile, Beaumont will be gunning to push through and add more runs to her tally on Day 3.
