Duleep Trophy 2024: Manav Suthar clinches seven wickets to wrap up India D on 236 in 2nd innings
Suthar picked up the wickets of Padikkal, Bhui, Bharat, Axar, Saransh, Arshdeep and Aditya.
Spinner Manav Suthar picked up seven wickets in the second innings of the match between India C and D at Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur. After a disastrous first innings with the bat, the Shreyas Iyer-led side bounced back in the second innings as the captain led from the front. He played an aggressive brand of cricket, smashing 54 runs off 44 deliveries. Along with Devdutt Padikkal, he stitched a crucial 53-run partnership which helped India D take control of the game.
However, after that, it was all about Suthar. He dismissed Padikkal for 56 runs and turned the game around. He picked important wickets of Ricky Bhui, Srikar Bharat, Axar Patel, Saransh Jain, Arshdeep Singh and Aditya Thakare as India D posted 236 runs in the second innings. At one point, the team was expected to breach the 280-run mark but Suthar’s wrath cut them short.
His seven-for included wickets of important batters, who looked to be in good touch. Padikkal’s wicket out of which was extremely vital as the cricketer looked in good shape. After his dismissal, Bhui took control of the situation but Suthar dismissed him for 44 runs. Axar meanwhile once again had very little support from the other end. He played a vital knock of 86 runs in the first innings but Suthar this time around sent him early.
Chasing 233 runs, India C started brilliantly with both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sai Sudharsan playing counter-attacking knocks. Captain Gaikwad particularly hit 46 runs off 48 balls before Saransh got the better of him. He also dismissed Sudharsan for 22 runs. The responsibility now lies on the shoulders of Aryan Juyal and Rajat Patidar. After this, Baba Indrajith will have the responsibility of finishing things off.
He played a vital knock in the first innings of the game and would hope to continue in the same manner to get the job done for his team. For India D, Axar Patel’s overs will be vital.
