Shreyanka Patil starred as India A opened their 2023 ACC Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup on a winning note. The Shweta Sehrawat-led side registered a comfortable nine-wicket win over Hong Kong Women at the Mission Road Ground in Hong Kong on Tuesday, June 13.
Having won the toss, Sehrawat invited Hong Kong to bat first. Mannat Kashyap and Titas Sadhu got the early breakthroughs for India, who dismissed opener Natasha Miles and number three batter Shanzeen Shahzad. Patil then grabbed five wickets as Hong Kong collapsed for a paltry total of 34 in 14 overs. The 20-year-old finished with impressive figures of 5/2 against the inexperienced Hong Kong team. Kashyap and Parshavi Chopra picked up two wickets, while Sadhu scalped one for the Indian team.
In reply, India A chased down the target in 5.2 overs, with keeper-batter Uma Chetry and Gongadi Trisha after the early wicket of the skipper. Chetry and Trisha scored an unbeaten 16 and 19, respectively, during the chase.
On a debut getting five wickets just an amazing feeling: Patil
Following her excellent spell with the ball, Patil stated that she dreamt about wearing the Indian jersey since she was a kid and will not stop dreaming about it. The 20-year-old also expressed gratitude after taking a fifer on debut, stating it means a lot to her.
“I am very grateful to be wearing this jersey. Since I was a kid, I was dreaming to wear this jersey and I won’t stop dreaming, I’ll continue dreaming, but the thing is that it’s just in the beginning and thoroughly enjoyed this fifer because it means a lot to me. On a debut getting five wickets just an amazing feeling," the 20-year-old told ACC.
Patil was one of the standout performers for Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCB-W) in the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL). Notably, she scored 62 runs and took six wickets from seven innings at an average of 32.00 and an economy rate of 9.84 for the Smriti Mandhana-led side in the WPL 2023.
