Fresh news is coming in the form of Australian all-rounder, Cameron Green. Green was left out of the third and final T20I of the recently-concluded series, as well as the second ODI, to manage his workload after having to bowl in all six of Australia's games of their tour to the UK.

Green was left out in the fourth ODI of the XI for leg-spinner, Adam Zampa, post him reporting bouts of back soreness post the third ODI of the series which saw Australia register a 46-run loss via the DLS method.

The hefty all-rounder is poised to return back to Australia as soon as possible so as to begin his rehabilitation after scans revealed him sustain a back injury.

A spokesperson from the Australian men's team disclosed that the gravity of the injury and a timeline for his return couldn't be admitted until the 25-year-old returns back to Perth for additional assessment, according to cricket.com.au.

With the big-ticket Border-Gavaskar Trophy coming up in less than a couple of months, the prime priority for Cricket Australia would be to ensure Green is back to his optimal physical condition in time. It would truly be absolutely devastating for Green as much as for the Australian team if a pivotal player like him is unavailable to partake against India.

Interestingly, Green was Australia's best bowler in the third ODI on Tuesday with 2-45, also scoring a composed 42 with the bat earlier in the fixture. His valiant all-round performance couldn't prevent his side losing their first ODI after 14 wins on the trot, spanning across an interval of 348 days.

Green has had a history of injuries in his professional career

This isn't the first time Green has incurred a serious injury.

In late 2022, Green copped a finger injury in which his finger broke during a game against the Proteas at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Scans revealed a minor fracture after being bounced by Anrich Nortje, and in turn, he was ruled out of the third and final Test to be played in Sydney.

He had kept this condition from which he was born with under wraps until representing the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.
