England’s interim white-ball Head Coach, Marcus Trescothick, has opted for a break ahead of the Australia series in September. Meanwhile, Andrew Flintoff, who was temporarily part of England’s coaching staff for a year until the T20 World Cup 2024, has joined the Test team. He is expected to work temporarily with the England batters ahead of the third Test against Sri Lanka in London.

It is worth noting that the former all-rounder will not be part of the coaching staff after Trescothick comes back for three T20Is and five ODIs against Australia. Flintoff is coming off a long The Hundred tournament as he was the Head Coach of Northern Superchargers, who finished fourth in the league. He will join the Test squad on Wednesday, followed by two training days.

Moreover, as per reports from ESPNcricinfo, Flintoff will not board the winter tour flight to Pakistan and New Zealand. On the other hand, Trescothick will start his sabbatical at the end of the second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord’s. He will only come for the first T20I at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton on September 11. Trescothick also shed light on Jos Buttler’s potential stepping down as a wicket-keeper batter and on white-ball captaincy prospects.

“It's definitely something we'll think about, because we can try different options, give it a go for a period of time and see what reaction it has on his captaincy and on the team,” said Trescothick as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“For whatever reason, there were a tough couple of World Cups that they had in the meantime, and we've come out of those not feeling too great about our one-day cricket. But it's still in a really good place, and Jos is going to lead that forward for a period of time at the moment — and I don't see it changing,” he added.
