ENG vs WI 2024: Mark Wood bowls fastest Test over by England bowler at home
Wood broke his record in his second over of the game.
Star England pacer Mark Wood has shattered all records as he set the speed gun on fire with the fastest recorded over in Test cricket by an English bowler at home, during the second Test of the ongoing three-game series on Friday, July 19. Bowling his first over of the game at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, Wood took no time to get to work as he bowled a 93.9mph delivery.
Bowling to Windies opener Mikyle Louis, the batter was left in awe witnessing Wood’s pace. His first delivery was followed by a 96.1mph scorcher. Furthermore, the third and fourth deliveries were 95-mph and 92-mph thunderbolts.
Furthermore, he broke the barrier on the fifth delivery of the over, as he bowled a 96.5-mph yorker that saw the Windies opener take a single. He then finished the over with a 95.2-mph delivery to West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite.
Furthermore, he went on to break his own record by bowling an even faster over in the same clash. Recording 95mph, 93mph, 95mph, 96mph, 97.1mph, and 94mph – in his third over, Mark Wood was quick to go viral all over social media.
England post huge total to kick off second Test
Speaking of the ongoing Test series, England got off to a brilliant start, defeating the West Indies by an innings and 114 runs. With the win in the first Test secured, England came in to bat after losing the toss to kick off the second Test. The side opened with Zak Crawley who got out for a duck.
However, Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope stabilised the innings, scoring 71 and 121 runs, respectively. Harry Brook scored 36 runs in 34 deliveries, with Ben Stokes adding 69 runs in 104 deliveries. The knocks saw England post a total of 416 runs in the first innings.
As for the West Indies, Alzarri Joseph was the highest wicket-taker with three wickets to his name. Jayden Seales, Kevin Sinclair, and Kavem Hodge took two wickets each, with Shamar Joseph striking once as well.
