ENG vs WI: Pavilion End at Trent Bridge to be renamed honouring Stuart Broad on Day 1 of second Test

Nottingham-born Stuart Broad is set to be honoured with a pavilion of his name at Trent Bridge ahead of the second Test between West Indies and England. The decision was soon after his retirement but a plaque unveiling ceremony is planned before the start of Day 1, in which Stuart will be present alongside his father Chris Boad, who has played 59 matches for England. 

The legendary pacer represented England in 167 Test matches and has 604 scalps to his name - the fifth-highest in the history of Test cricket. He retired from Test cricket in 2023, after the completion of the Ashes. He was terrific in the series and was expected to continue beyond it, but the pacer called his time and currently works as a pundit. 

“Ticket-holders for day one of the Trent Bridge Test are advised to take their seats by 10.40 am as we officially rename the Pavilion End of our venue in honour of Stuart Broad,” an official statement from Trent Bridge read.

Meanwhile, Chris was elated with Nottinghamshire's decision to name the pavilion end after Stuart. The former cricketer revealed that he shared an image of the scoreboard with his son and the latter was emotional seeing that. 

“I'm delighted that the Nottinghamshire Committee decided that Stuart should be remembered in this way. To have an end named after him is a complete delight. It was quite surreal, the first time I visited Trent Bridge this year, to hear the announcement that the bowler was bowling from the Stuart Broad End,” Chris said. 

“I took a picture of the scoreboard and sent it to Stuart, and he was a little bit emotional seeing his name up there. I'm so proud and privileged to see him being given that honour,” he added.

England have already announced their squad for the second Test against West Indies. Mark Wood replaced James Anderson in the playing XI.
