England Cricket Board to expedite Moeen Ali's transition into coaching

Former star England all-rounder, Moeen Ali, who recently called it a day from playing international cricket, will transition into coaching. He would have most likely been a part of the coaching setup as a consultant in the Youth ODI Tri-Series with the England U-19 unit had he not accepted the late offer to be a part of the setup of the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the 2024 edition of the Caribbean Premier League. 

The England & Wales Cricket Board are keen on making use of the seasoned campaigner's leadership skills to nurture the up-and-coming generation of cricketers. The England management will be striving to leverage his expertise within the pathway programme, working with the England U-19s or the England Lions/England A.

I want to be one of the best: Moeen

In a recent conversation post Moeen announcing his international retirement, it seemed as if coaching was something he had laid his eyes on since quite some time now. He also expressed that if he became part of the coaching panel, he would definitely want to grasp the nuances from England's head coach, Brendon McCullum. 

“Coaching is something I want to do. I want to be one of the best. I can learn a lot from Baz [Brendon McCullum]. I hope people remember me as a free spirit. I played some nice shots and some bad shots, but hopefully people enjoyed watching me,” stated Moeen, as quoted by The Telegraph.

In March, the ECB managing director, Rob Key had also expressed his foreboding sense as to Moeen becoming a successful coach.

“I think Moeen Ali will be an excellent coach,” mentioned Key, in a conversation with the same publication.

Due to England having a handful of experienced players in their ranks during Moeen's playing days, he was never really needed to skipper the team. In his 298-game career with The Three Lions, the Birmingham-born led the team in 12 T20Is and a single ODI.
