The 2010 T20 World Cup was held in the West Indies in which, England emerged as the champions, defeating Ashes rival Australia in the final. This victory marked England’s first T20 World Cup and their first ICC world championship in cricket history.
Under the leadership of Paul Collingwood, England finished second in Group D, which also featured West Indies and Ireland. The Three Lions qualified for the Super 8 on net run rate, courtesy of West Indies’ 70-run win over Ireland.
In the Super 8, they were in the same group as Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa. They managed to win all three matches and finished as the group leaders and qualified for the semi-finals, where they faced Sri Lanka. At Gros Islet, the Collingwood-led side bowled brilliantly and picked up a comfortable seven-wicket victory to make it to the final.
On the night of the final, they once again had a terrific time with the ball, restricting Australia to 147 runs. Opener Craig Kieswetter made 63 runs and Kevin Pietersen hit 47 runs as England won the match by seven wickets.
