England have got to find a different method of trying to put Varun under pressure: Michael Vaughan
"He is very consistent and also very smart. England have got to find a different method of trying to put him under pressure,” Vaughan said.
The first T20I between India and England at Kolkata turned out to be a one-sided game where the Men in Blue completely outplayed the visitors at the Eden Gardens. The star of the day in the match was Varun Chakravarthy who bowled a great spell against a strong English batting lineup.
Varun Chakravarthy was adjudged the man of the match and finished with figures of 3/23 in four overs. Varun Chakravarthy took the wickets of Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, and skipper Jos Buttler during the game and made sure that English batters did not get away with the match. His spell was lauded by all the experts which also include former England skipper Michael Vaughan who was impressed by Chakravarthy’s performances and also mentioned that the England batters need to find a way to put him under pressure.
“Chakravarthy is a lovely mystery spinner – kind of brings the ball back into the right-handers. Every now and again, he will just hold one up. He’s not a huge spinner of the ball but just does enough, which makes it very difficult – always brings the stumps into play. He is very consistent and also very smart. England have got to find a different method of trying to put him under pressure,” Vaughan said on Cricbuzz.

Vaughan also went on to criticise the England batters on how they played against spin in the game as well mentioning that the England batters need to find a way to combat spin going forward in the series.
“Today, it didn’t really spin a great deal, so they’ve got a bit of work to do with the way that they combat spin and try to find a way of not only just surviving but scoring. In T20 cricket, you’ve got to find that counter-punch to put bowlers under pressure,” Vaughan added.
Speaking of the match England was bowled out for just 132 runs with only Buttler making a valuable contribution during the match. The score was chased down in just 12.5 overs thanks to the great knock from Abhishek Sharma (79 off 34 deliveries) and cameos from Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma.
