England recently concluded a three-match Test series against Pakistan on the latter’s soil after a long gap of 17 years. ICC CEO Geoff Allardice has opined that the bilateral series was a massive success and he is optimistic about the nation hosting future tours that will be equally successful.

The red-ball format made a comeback in Pakistan in 2022 with heavyweights- Australia and England concluding a successful tour in the Asian nation. Allardice stated that the local fans showed a lot of enthusiasm and added that the people were hospitable.

“The fans in Pakistan are passionate about the game and passionate about their team, but most importantly they are welcoming of visitors. I have always had great experiences when I have travelled to Pakistan and I have been to see a few series over the last few years and the welcome is always very warm,” said Allardice as quoted by ICC.

“Pakistan is one of the strongest cricketing countries in the ICC membership. To have series like this taking place and fans travelling to Pakistan and New Zealand starting in a few days time for their Test series as well is a huge step forward to getting cricket back in Pakistan on a regular basis,” Allardice added.

Pakistan to host New Zealand for two-match Test series

Pakistan will take up their next assignment as they are to host the Tim Southee-led New Zealand in a two-match Test series followed by a three-match ODI series. The red-ball contest is scheduled to commence on December 26.

Speaking about the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23, Babar Azam and co. are already out of the contention for a spot in the summit clash of the event. This is due to the fact that England dented their chances badly courtesy of the whitewash in the recently concluded series, 3-0. On the other hand, their arch-rivals India and Australia have better chances of progressing further and cementing a spot in the finals.
