Eoin Morgan unsure about immediate future in cricket after Hundred exit

Former England captain Eoin Morgan is not quite sure about his cricket future after retirement from international cricket and the Hundred exit in the eliminator on Friday (September 2). Morgan was dismissed for a golden duck in the Eliminator game and could not lead his side London Spirit to a win against the Manchester Originals.  

The 35-year-old has been going through inconsistent form for a long while across formats and he could not bag a contract in the IPL this year despite his captaincy potential. The left-hander has been involved in working with the Sky Sports Cricket punditry team in the time away from playing. Despite a number of cricket leagues going on at the moment, Morgan might find it tough to bag a deal given his current form.

Morgan replied to a query on his immediate future stating that he is unsure of it and noted the big gap ahead of the next tournament assignments for him. He reckoned that the retirement has brought him delightment and mentioned a lot of things he has been doing in his leisure time since that. He concluded by leaving the fans to wonder what’s coming about his future. 

"I'm not quite sure. Tournaments are a long way away next year. Obviously finishing this year has reflected really well on me. I've enjoyed retirement a lot, I love the pod, I love golf, I love spending more time with my family, it's been magnificent. But who knows next year?" Morgan was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. 

Meanwhile, Kevin Pietersen who was also present during the interaction made a funny statement that Morgan would rather be in the pod than winning a game of cricket. "He's coming to join us in the pod, he'd rather be in the pod than win a game of cricket," Pietersen noted.  

Meanwhile, Morgan is by far the most successful England captain in limited overs cricket and he led the country to its first ever World Cup title in 2019.
