'Everybody has a right to give an opinion' - Wasim Akram on Gautam Gambhir's 'selfish captain' remark for Babar Azam
'In my opinion, first, you think about your team instead of yourself,' Gambhir had said earlier.
Former Pakistan's pacer Wasim Akram has said that Gautam Gambhir is entitled to give his opinion after the two-time World Cup winner lashed out at Pakistan's skipper Babar Azam's approach in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Gambhir who was commentating during the Pakistan vs Netherlands game thrashed Babar for not promoting Fakhar Zaman up the batting order. The former left-handed batter had called Babar selfish as a captain and said that he needs to think about the team if he wants to be a leader.
Gambhir is one of the top players of his time: Wasim Akram
Akram, while speaking to Pakistan channel A Sports, responded by saying: "That is his opinion. Gautam Gambhir himself being a successful captain in IPL. Winning twice with KKR. One of the top players of his time, I suppose everybody has a right to give their opinion. And that is his opinion."
Earlier, Gambhir had said, "In my opinion, first, you think about your team instead of yourself. If nothing goes according to your plan, you should have sent Fakhar Zaman up the batting order. This is called selfishness; as a captain, it is easy to be selfish for Babar and Rizwan to open the innings for Pakistan and create so many records. If you want to be a leader, you have to think about your team."
Pakistan will take on South Africa in their next group-stage encounter of the T20 World Cup. South Africa are currently unbeaten in the competition, having defeated India and Bangladesh with one game against Zimbabwe being washed out.
Pakistan, on the other hand, registered their first victory in the competition by defeating the Netherlands recently. The Men in Green lost their opening encounter against India and then suffered a heart-breaking defeat against Zimbabwe. They will need to win the upcoming game at any cost and try to keep their hopes alive for reaching the next round of the competition.
