The 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was a disappointing one for India and Virat Kohli. Ahead of the five-match series, there were a lot of expectations placed on the ace Indian batter for turning up Down Under. However, he could only muster 190 runs in nine innings. A point of concern that was highlighted in all of his innings was his constant vulnerability against deliveries served up outside the off-stump channel. Kohli's urge to constantly nick those deliveries raised question marks on his not being receptive to coaching methodologies and consultation.

Ex-Indian batting coach, Bharat Arun, recently discussed on how Kohli would react to his and the other coaches' feedback about his batting technique.

"See, Virat Kohli will definitely ask. If you suggest changes to him or anything like that, you should have a very good reason as to why you are suggesting it. I am sure that he will do so because he is the No. 1 batter in the world. When you make suggestions about what is wrong, he will ask questions like - 'what is wrong with me?' and 'how did I miss my runs?'," shared Arun in a conversation with Subramaniam Badrinath in a video on the latter's YouTube channel.

The home white-ball series against England followed by the 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy awaits India. Understandably, there would be an immense volume of hopes from Kohli to come good. The white-ball series could be the much-needed break Kohli needed from his lean patch in the longest format of the game.

Notably, Kohli's average in Tests has dropped to 46.85. He has not been at his best for the past few years. Apart from a few knocks here and there, his outings with the bat have been quite tepid. It will be interesting to see whether the team management backs Kohli for the five-match Test series against England, scheduled to commence in June later this year.
