Ex-Mumbai captains to attend golden jubilee celebrations of Wankhede Stadium

The Wankhede Stadium is one of the iconic stadiums in Indian cricket that has given some of the iconic games in international cricket. The 2011 World Cup final and the 2004 Test match against Australia were one of the major examples of the tournament where historical achievements were witnessed at this ground.

The Wankhede is about to complete 50 years on the 19th of January and the events will begin on the 12th of January which will be held by the Mumbai Cricket Association(MCA). The event will also feature some of the legendary skippers of Mumbai as well which will include some legendary figures of the game who have made a lot of impact in the game. The ex-Mumbai captains are Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravi Shastri, Ajinkya Rahane, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Diana Edulji along with some domestic legends from both men’s and women’s cricket. MCA president Ajinkya Naik has also spoken on this occasion where he has invited all the fans and legends to celebrate.

Let’s make this celebration truly unforgettable." Naik said as quoted by News 18.

The last match played at the Wankhede was between India and New Zealand where the Kiwis created history by winning the last and final match of the series by 25 runs and took the three-match series 3-0. This was the first time a visiting team beat India in India since 2012 and was the first time India was whitewashed at home after the series against South Africa in 2000.
