[Exclusive] 'Amazing experience to learn from the legend' - UAE's Kavisha Kumari on training under late Shane Warne

UAE's young all-rounder Kavisha Kumari recently opened up on her cricketing journey, which included training under the late Australian great Shane Warne. 

Kumari, at just 16 years old, made history by becoming the first girl to enter and play in the UAE qualifiers of Red Bull's university cricket tournament. Representing Middlesex University Dubai, Kumari not only broke barriers but also was the youngest player on her team. 

The all-rounder has featured in 88 WT20I matches for UAE and has scored 1947 runs at an average of 33.56. Her bowling record is equally impressive, with 43 wickets at an average of 16.04. 

The young cricketer shared her experience at the Rajasthan Royals Academy, where she trained under cricket legends like Lisa Sthalekar and Warne. Kumari reflected on this experience and the conversations with the Australian legend. 

"It was an amazing experience to be part of that camp and learn from legends like Lisa Sthalekar and the late Shane Warne, who is truly missed. He left us too soon. The camp was really valuable, we learned a lot, especially about playing against spinners. We had great discussions on how to handle different spin deliveries and how to respond as a batter. Overall, it was a fantastic learning experience," said Kumari in an exclusive conversation with CricTracker.

Shane Warne is RR's most successful captain 

Warne, tragically passed away on March 4, 2022, at the age of 52. The former was a cricket icon who revolutionized leg-spin bowling, with 708 Test wickets and 293 ODI wickets. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he led the Rajasthan Royals to victory in the inaugural 2008 season.

Warne's connection to the Royals family is a story of unexpected success. Acquired at a base price in the first IPL auction, Warne was named captain of a largely inexperienced squad. His leadership and man-management skills were crucial in guiding the team to title glory. He led the side to 31 wins out of 56 matches, a win percentage of 55.35. He remains the most successful captain in Rajasthan Royals' history, alongside Sanju Samson.
