All-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham spent two years with Gautam Gambhir at Lucknow Super Giants. The current India coach was the mentor of the franchise before switching sides to join Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024. Meanwhile, under Gambhir, Lucknow qualified for the playoffs in 2022 and 2023 but could never qualify for the finals. He nevertheless played an instrumental role in building Lucknow’s core, which will serve the team for years to come.

Meanwhile, Gowtham opened up on what it was like to share the dressing room with the former India cricketer. He noted that Gambhir is someone who never sugarcoats anything and has the courage to tell the truth straight in one's face. Gowtham also added that the current India head coach knows how to get the best of the players.

“GG bhai is someone who is upfront. He will tell you the way exactly it is, how to prepare yourself for high-pressure games. He knows how to get the best out of the players. The way he talks to a player, the way he motivates.. it’s a different ballgame,” Gowtham said exclusively to CricTracker.

“He makes sure that everyone is comfortable. The other thing is that he makes sure what is right is right, and what is wrong is wrong. He will also never sugarcoat things. He is straight on your face, whatever it is,” he added.

After winning the IPL with KKR in 2024, Gambhir was offered the role of India's head coach by the BCCI. He agreed and has signed a deal until 2027. Under his leadership, the Men in Blue won the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka but suffered a crushing 0-3 defeat in the ODI series.

Recently, Morne Morkel, who was a part of the LSG setup alongside Gambhir as bowling coach, also joined the Indian national team. He will join the team for the first time in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.
