With the Indian team's upcoming challenge being the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, all eyes are on batting stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both players have faced a rough patch in recent months, struggling to find their rhythm across formats. However, India’s captain Rohit Sharma silenced his critics with a brilliant century against England in the second ODI at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack on February 9.
Meanwhile, Kohli's constant dismissals outside the off-stump have been a major concern, as bowlers continue to exploit his weakness. Former Indian cricketer and U19 coach Lalchand Rajput has emphasiSed that great players will never abandon their unique and signature shots. Rajput addressed the concerns surrounding the duo's form, particularly their mode of dismissals.
"Every player has a USP because those are the shots that have given him the maximum runs, so they will not cut down on those. And as a coach, I will also not tell them to cut down on those. But during the bad phase, all the odds turn against you, you try hitting a shot it goes to the fielder or someone takes an exceptional catch so these things happen in cricket. But as great players, they will never leave their USP shots. I am sure that they will come back stronger and once they get going it's all about getting that start and everything will fall in place and that is the beauty of this game," he told Crictracker.

Adil Rashid's success against Virat Kohli continues
Meanwhile, giving a perfect reply to his critics, Indian skipper Rohit played an impressive knock of 119 off just 90 balls in the second ODI against England in Cuttack. This was his first ODI century since October 2023, coming up in just 76 balls,. Rohit smashed 12 fours and seven sixes.
While Rohit shined, Kohli’s struggles continued as he was dismissed early, attempting to drive a ball against Adil Rashid. The 36-year-old, however, got a faint edge and was caught by wicketkeeper Phil Salt. Though the on-field umpire ruled it ‘not out,’ England successfully overturned the decision via DRS, leaving Kohli and thousands at the stadium disappointed.
