Claims regarding MS Dhoni being bestowed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) with a honorary 7-Rupee coin have gone viral on social media recently. The claims revealed that the Government of India (GoI) will prepare a coin to recognize the legacy of the wicketkeeper-batter and his contributions to Indian cricket.
Meanwhile, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has released a statement on social media debunking the fake news and clarified that the Department of Economic Affairs has made no such announcements.
“The claim made in the image is #fake. The Department of Economic Affairs has made NO such announcement,” the tweet read, and it also tagged key government organisations like the Ministry of Finance, DD News, and All India Radio News to amplify the clarification.
Dhoni to play for CSK in IPL 2025 as uncapped player
There were doubts about whether Dhoni will be playing in the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). After the end of IPL 2024, the keeper-batter stated that he would take a call based on the rule BCCI sets regarding retention. The apex council eventually announced to bring back the rule in which if an Indian cricketer hasn’t played international cricket in the last five years, he can be registered as an uncapped cricketer.
Chennai Super Kings took advantage of the rule and retained Dhoni for INR 4 crore for the upcoming edition of the IPL. In 2024, the Ranchi-born cricketer played 14 games, scoring 161 runs at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 220.54. He was phenomenal in the backend of an innings, but CSK eventually failed to qualify for the playoffs.
