‘Players should back each other instead of focusing on personal goals' - Faheem Ashraf after series loss to New Zealand
“ In my opinion, when you focus only on your personal game, or if I come in, do my part, and step aside, that's not how it works," Ashraf said.

Pakistan all-rounder Faheem Ashraf emphasised the importance of teamwork over individual performances following his team’s 84-run defeat in the second ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand. The loss in Seddon Park gave the Kiwis a commanding 2-0 lead, leaving Pakistan with only pride to play for in the final game of the series.
After New Zealand set a challenging total of 292, the Men in Green struggled early, collapsing to 32/5. The left-handed batter played a fighting knock, scoring 73 off 80, but his efforts were not enough to steer the team to victory as they were bowled out for 208 in the 42nd over.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, he stressed upon the need for players to support each other rather than focusing solely on personal achievements.
“Look, each and every one of us is trying to make the team win. In my opinion, when you focus only on your personal game, or if I come in, do my part, and step aside, that's not how it works," Faheem told reporters.
“As a team, we need to back each other rather than just focusing on individual performances and then stepping aside. As long as you are playing cricket, it is not difficult to win. Everyone is trying to go with the same mindset. It has also happened in the past. So, I say that it is not that difficult, if you keep playing good cricket then you will definitely win," he added.
New Zealand’s batting was anchored by Mitch Hay, who played a brilliant knock of 99 not out, helping his team reach a competitive total. In response, the Pakistani batting order crumbled under pressure, with the top order failing to contribute significantly. Despite the all-rounder’s resistance in the middle order, the Kiwi bowlers maintained their dominance and ensured a comfortable win.
With the series already lost, Pakistan will now play the third ODI at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on April 5, in an attempt to avoid a whitewash.
