Former Australia cricketer Michael Slater pleads court to withdraw charges of domestic violence over bipolar diagnosis

Former Australia cricketer Michael Slater is trying to get his assault and intimidation charges dropped after getting diagnosed with bipolar disorder. His plea is reportedly being heard at the Manly Local Court.

Slater was charged with two counts for allegedly assaulting a 36-year-old patient in July this year at the Northern Beaches Hospital. The ex-Aussie batter had allegedly intimidated the patient for which these charges have been pressed against him.

When Michael Slater breached court’s restraining order

Slater had been accused of breaching the court’s restraining order that was imposed to protect the life of the involved woman who is a Freshwater resident. The former  Australian Test opener has been ‘’charged with using a carriage service with intent to intimidate’’ according to reports in Fox Cricket.

The report further adds that the cricketer-turned-broadcaster had contacted the victim with over a 100 messages, emails and calls despite him being warned by the court of not to get in touch with the woman in any manner.

Meanwhile, the woman complained to the court saying that the ex-cricketer had made used of “slurred speech” during the calls. Slater was then booked and arrested on September 22. However, Slater has denied all charges that have been pressed against him.

It is to be noted that Michael Slater was granted bail on medical grounds in April this year. He was also cleared of the domestic violence charges that were pressed against him when he complained of battling mental health issues.

Even though the cricketer-turned-commentator was previously granted bail on medical grounds, he found himself in troubled waters once again when he disrespected the law by breaking it.

At the same time, when Slater had appeared before the Manly local court earlier this year, Magistrate Megan Greenwood had issued him a strict conditional bail order according to which he had to refrain from consuming alcohol and intake of narcotics in order to maintain a good behavior.
