Former India coach Sanjay Bangar picks Tilak Varma over Abhishek Sharma after England T20I series

The England series saw some great innings from some young and upcoming players within the Indian team that stood up against the fiery English pace bowlers in the T20I series. The players who played some impressive knocks in the five-match series were Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma who are already considered a future prospect for the Indian team. 

The two players were amongst the highest run scorers in the side as well where Abhishek ended up as the leading run-getter with 279 runs in 5 matches. Tilak Varma also scored 133 runs in the series at an average of 44.33 and had a strike rate of 131.68. The two have been praised by all the experts and one of the individuals who has praised the two is former India coach and commentator Sanjay Bangar who also compared the two batters and gave an opinion that Varma is the more polished batter complimenting his temperament and ability to play in the middle overs.

“I would prefer Tilak Varma. Abhishek Sharma dominates when field restrictions are in place, but Tilak can be special even in the middle order when the field is spread out. His temperament is also excellent," Sanjay Bangar said on Star Sports Deep Point. 

Abhishek and Tilak Varma’s performances in T20Is 

The performances of both the southpaws have been exceptional where Abhishek Sharma has scored 535 runs in the 17 matches, he has played and is averaging 33.43. He has also maintained a phenomenal strike rate of 193.84. He has already scored two centuries which also includes the innings of 135 in Wankhede which is also the highest individual score for India in T20Is. 

Tilak Varma has been sensational in the middle order as well scoring 749 runs at an average of 49.93 and has a strike rate of 155.07 in the 25 matches he has played so far. Tilak Varma has scored two T20I centuries as well and also played a game-saving knock in Chennai during the second T20I against England.
