Former Pakistan captain Javeria Khan announces retirement from international cricket

Javeria Khan is Pakistan's second-highest run scorer in the limited-overs formats.

Former Pakistan women's captain, Javeria Khan, has announced retirement from international cricket, ending her glorious 15-year career. She has featured in 116 ODIs and 112 T20Is for the national side and has accumulated 4903 runs, including two tons and 25 half-centuries. The 35-year-old has showcased her prowess in bowling as well, picking up 28 wickets.

The right-handed batter is Pakistan's second-highest run scorer in the limited-overs formats. She has taken part in four ICC Women’s Cricket World Cups and all eight ICC Women’s T20 World Cups, which showcases her longevity on the international front. She has captained the side in 17 ODIs and 16 T20Is in her remarkable career. Javeria expressed her gratitude to her teammates, family, and fans for the constant support she has received throughout her career. She also mentioned that she will still play league cricket in Pakistan.

“I want to call it a day and announce my retirement, however, I will be available for league cricket. I am grateful to the unwavering support I received throughout my career. I want to thank my family, teammates, the Pakistan Cricket Board, my department ZTBL for their support and guidance at each step, and my fans whose appreciation was instrumental in bringing out the best in me. I have been blessed to hold Pakistan’s flag globally,” Javeria was quoted as saying in an official release by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). 

Meanwhile, Tania Mallick, Pakistan's Head of Women’s Cricket, lavished praise on Javeria Khan for having a stellar career and highlighted her remarkable contributions to the team over the years. Mallick went on to say that the former captain's legacy would inspire the young generation to excel in their career.

“On behalf of the PCB and all cricket fans, I extend heartfelt gratitude to Javeria Khan for her invaluable contributions to women’s cricket in Pakistan. As Javeria announces her retirement, we reflect on her remarkable career and services she has rendered for Pakistan cricket. We thank her for her untiring commitment and wish her all the success in her future endeavours,” Tania Mallick said.
