Gautam Gambhir as India head coach nearly a done deal
Current head coach, Rahul Dravid’s tenure will conclude at the end of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir had a spectacular run as the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024 as the franchise won its third title. Gambhir’s impact on the team was the most talked about topic in the cricketing circuit. As per several reports, the southpaw’s name was the frontrunner for the next head coach of the Indian Men’s cricket team. Current head coach, Rahul Dravid’s tenure will conclude at the end of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
While the Delhi-batter has previously mentored Lucknow Super Giants in IPL, the team only managed to reach the playoffs. Gambhir’s aggressive and attacking approach is what seemed to have played a big role in BCCI considering him for the coveted job. As per reports by Dainik Jagran, it is now a done deal that the former India opener will be holding the reign of the Indian team for the next three years.
I would love to coach the Indian team: Gautam Gambhir
Although rumor mills were churning the news of Gambhir's appointment as the head coach, the man himself remained silent over the developments. Most recently, even former India captain Anil Kumble backed the KKR mentor to hold the mantle. However, Gambhir revealed at an event that he is more than willing to take up the position and it is a matter of honour to represent the dream of 1.4 billion Indians.

“I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as well. I have not answered this question, although lot of people have asked me. But I have to answer you now. It is 140 crore Indians who will help India win the World Cup. If everyone starts praying for us and we start playing and representing them, India will win the World Cup. The most important thing is to be fearless,” said Gambhir.
