Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli caught all the headlines with their on-field spat in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Both were engaged in a heated exchange when Royal Challengers Bangalore took on Lucknow Super Giants in the 43rd game of the tournament on May 1.
However, weeks after the heated exchange, Gautam Gambhir came forward to clarify the situation between him and Kohli. Talking about his verbal spat with the 34-year-old, Gambhir opined that there is nothing personal between them, and all the heat stays on the ground.
Kohli was involved in a verbal altercation with Lucknow pacer Naveen-ul-Haq in the game, and it got further heated when Gambhir took Kyle Mayers away when he was having a chat with Kohli. This led to both Kohli and Gambhir engaging in a heated argument, which was the talk of the town for several weeks.
"My relationship with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli is the same. If there is an argument between us, it stays only on the field, not off field. There’s nothing personal. They want to win as much as I do," Gautam Gambhir told News 18.
It's not like I never fought: Gambhir
Furthermore, Gambhir also stated that he made a point of not taking the fights and arguments that he indulged in off the field. He also stated that a lot of people asked him for clarification; however, he opined that an argument between two people does not need any clarification.
"Look, I have had many fights on cricket fields. It's not like I never fought. I have always ensured to let those fights and arguments stay at the cricket field only. The argument was between two people and it should stay within the cricket field and not outside it. A lot of people said many things. A lot of people demanded an interview for TRPs like they asked me to clarify. The thing that has happened between two people doesn't need to be clarified," Gambhir said.
