The Indian team is has been subjected to plenty of criticism following their poor show, with multiple reports of differences between the team's coaching staff and players adding to the team's misery.
The team's recent performances have brought head coach Gautam Gambhir under scrutiny as the 43-year-old is facing backlash from all quarters. Notably, India have lost six of the last 10 Tests under Gambhir's tenure, which includes the 3-1 defeat in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under, ending India's 10-year dominance in the bilateral tournament.
While there have been multiple reports suggesting discord in the Indian dressing room, fresh reports claiming about a potential rift between coaches Gambhir and Morne Morkel have emerged as well. As per a TOI report, Gambhir took exception to Morkel’s tardiness as he arrived late to a practice session due to a personal engagement. An irked Gambhir reportedly chided his colleague in front of the team.

“Gambhir is very strict about discipline. He reprimanded Morkel immediately at the ground. The board has been told that Morkel was a bit reserved during the rest of the tour. It’s up to these two to sort it out for the team to function smoothly," the source said as quoted by TOI.
Abhishek Nayar and Ryan Ten Doeschate under the scanner
The other coaching staff member under the scanner is batting coach Abhishek Nayar. The board is said to have taken inputs from the players on whether the 41-year-old is adding any value through his presence. Additionally, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate's role is being questioned as well, with his limited international experience being at the center of discussion.
“Batting coach Abhishek Nayar is particularly under the scanner, Gambhir himself has been an accomplished batter. The board has asked the players if Nayar is bringing anything new to the table. Similarly, the assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate’s role is being discussed. His lack of international experience and ability to contribute to enhancing an international cricketer’s performance has been questioned," the source added.
