Glenn Maxwell opened up about his foot injury while commentating during a Big Bash League (BBL) game between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades on January 10.
The right-handed batting all-rounder had broken the fibula of his left leg while partying at a friend's house and had undergone surgery in November 2022 to reset the bone.
Almost thought of giving up cricket: Glenn Maxwell
Maxwell, who was speaking on AIR for FOX Cricket alongside former teammate Brad Haddin, opened up about the post-treatment scene after returning home from the hospital.
"I did think that I might not play cricket again. That first week in hospital was pretty difficult. There were those thoughts while I was in the hospital looking at my leg because it looked like a balloon,” the 34-year-old added.
"The next week I was at home after I got back from the hospital and I thought it was going to be a lot easier at home. (But) not having the nurses there and not having the constant pain medication … that was probably the most pain I’ve ever been in. Just trying to get around the house was awful."
Melbourne Stars, from their Twitter handle, posted a video footage of Maxwell's swollen foot while he lay in bed watching a WBBL match.

Maxwell reminisced the painful days he underwent at the hospital, but stated that he is very proud of himself because of the way he dealt with the fracture and the treatment procedure.
"I’m really proud of how much work I’ve put in day and night. I’ve had a lot of sleepless nights icing and trying to get myself ready, nights sleeping on the couch with pillows all around my foot and ice packs shoved into my boot."
