Class recognizes class is a renowned maxim, especially relevant in the world of sports, where a former athlete, regardless of their role, acknowledges the prowess of their successor. This was exemplified by R. Sridhar, the former fielding coach of Team India, who served in this capacity from 2014 to 2021.

In the same vein, Sridhar praised the competence of T. Dilip, his successor, who has been reappointed as the fielding coach under Gautam Gambhir's administration. He also noted that the effort he invested was a testament to his reappointment, emphasizing the significance of the behind-the-scenes work he had contributed to the team.

“It’s a credit to Dilip for being re-nominated as the fielding coach of the team. That goes on to show how well is the work he’s put in – the body of work that is put in behind the scenes. Many coaches work hard, so many support staff work hard behind the scenes to ensure that the players are able to create such magic on the field," Sridhar was quoted as saying by News18.

Moreover, he asserted that the BCCI had justly recognized him. Sridhar also highlighted the introduction of the 'fielding medal' concept by Dilip, which was awarded after each match within the confines of the dressing room. He noted that this initiative significantly elevated on-field performance by instilling a sense of zealousness and encouraging players to give their utmost.

“The BCCI has so rightly rewarded him. Dilip obviously introduced that fielding medal, so introduced a competitive element into the changing room. That brought about a lift in performances on the field, which all of us could see. So deservingly, he’s been given an extension,” Sridhar continued.

I’m sure with the experience he’s got, he will do a great job: Sridhar

Furthermore, Sridhar advised his fellow Hyderabadi to maintain his current approach, emphasizing the importance of sticking to the basics and continuing the practices he has implemented since joining the squad. He noted that Dilip should also align with the vision of the new head coach. However, Sridhar expressed confidence that, given Dilip's extensive experience and strong affinity with the players, he would end up excelling in his role.

“He needs to do nothing different. He just needs to continue what he’s continuing to do. Obviously, he needs to understand the vision of the new head coach who’s come in and work in tune with that vision. I’m sure with the experience he’s got, with the rapport he’s got with the players, he will do a great job," Sridhar concluded.

India will commence its tour of Sri Lanka with a three-match T20I series at Pallekele on Saturday, followed by an equal number of ODI fixtures in Colombo.
