'No better coach to instill confidence' - GT Director explains Ashish Nehra's role in Mohammed Siraj's IPL comeback
"I'm sure Siraj was disappointed (on Champions Trophy snub), but he's channelled that disappointment in working hard, and, I suppose, having a real thought about what he wants to do," said Solanki.
Gujarat Titans director Vikram Solanki has opened up on head coach Ashish Nehra's impact and influence on Mohammed Siraj. The Gujarat Titans pacer has been in top form in IPL 2025, following the 2025 Champions Trophy and RCB snub as he was released by the franchise ahead of the season.
Siraj has taken 11 wickets at an average of 22.81 and an economy of 8.96 in seven matches so far, including 3 for 19 against RCB at the M. Chinnaswaym Stadium. He is the currently joint third-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2025.
“I think Ashish has been a big influence as far as Siraj is concerned for a good number of years now. They obviously have a very good connection, but I don't want, for a second, to take away from all of the hard work that Siraj has done. Of course, he has all of the support of all of the coaches, and there is no doubt that Ashish has been a big influence. But we must also acknowledge the work that Siraj has done and respect that,” said Solanki on the eve of GT's away clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
“As far as confidence is concerned, there is probably no better coach, I don't think, than Ashish Nehra in instilling some confidence in players. It just seems as though we've got a guy that has something to prove. I'm sure Siraj was disappointed (on Champions Trophy snub), but he's channelled that disappointment in working hard, and, I suppose, having a real thought about what he wants to do. He's got a great coach in Ashish Nehra, helping him as far as his performance is concerned. Long may that connection continue and long may Siraj continue to thrive," he added,” Solanki added.
Speaking of GT’s season so far, they had a great outing against the Delhi Capitals in the last game and are currently on top of the points table. The Shubman Gill led side has won five of the seven games they have played and have consistently remained in the top half of the table.
