On Tuesday, May 2, the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) and Delhi Capitals (DC) squared off in the 44th match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. David Warner, the captain of DC, won the toss and chose to bat first. However, the decision appeared to be poor since the team only managed to score 130 runs in 20 overs.

Mohammed Shami struck on the very first delivery of the match, dismissing DC opener Phil Salt. The England batter attempted to loft it for a boundary, but David Miller intercepted and took a spectacular catch. When Warner and number three batter Priyam Garg made an effort to solidify the partnership, Warner was runout as he walked back to the pavilion.

After Shami shattered DC's batting order, Axar Patel and Aman Khan were expected to form a partnership and direct their team to a decent total. However, Mohit Sharma later dismissed Axar for 27 runs. Aman Khan, on the other hand, led the team from the front, scoring a half-century which helped DC to set a reasonable target.

The 26-year-old scored his maiden IPL half-century in the 18th over of the DC innings. He smashed 51 off 44 deliveries before being dismissed by GT all-rounder Rashid Khan. His knock was studded with three boundaries and three maximums.

Following the top-order collapse, the visitors could only set a 131-run target for the hosts. For GT, Mohammed Shami claimed a four-wicket haul while Mohit Sharma picked two and Rashid Khan grabbed one.

GT are currently at the top of the IPL 2023 points table, having won six matches and losing two. DC, on the other hand, have had a disappointing IPL season so far. They have four points and have only won two matches, putting them at the bottom of the standings.
