Shubman Gill dazzled again as Gujarat Titans scored 177/7 while batting first against Rajasthan Royals in the 23rd match of the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) on Sunday, April 16. The youngster scored 45 off 34 with the help of four boundaries and one six, and then David Miller smashed a quick-fire 46 to ensure a big total at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.

Both Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans are competing for the top spot in the points table with three wins from their opening four games before the latest clash. And as expected, both teams produced their best in the first innings to clinch two crucial points. Gill is currently leading the scoring chart for Gujarat with 228 runs from just five innings in IPL 2023 and is only six runs behind leading run-scorer Venkatesh Iyer.

Sanju Samson won the toss for Rajasthan Royals and elected to bowl first, with Trent Boult and Riyan Parag returning to the playing eleven. Boult made an instant impact on his return with Wriddhiman Saha's wicket on the innings' third delivery, but Gill managed to impress with another impactful innings.

The 23-year-old batter steadied the Titans' innings with a 27-run stand for the second wicket with Sai Sudharsan. The latter scored 20 off 19 before getting run out in the fifth over, but Gill stood strong against Rajasthan's bowling attack. Gill eased off early pressure with two fours off Ravichandran Ashwin in the next over and pulled off a quick 59-run partnership for the third wicket with skipper Hardik Pandya.

Gujarat lost Hardik in the 11th over, who scored a crucial 28 off 19 to put the Titans in a comfortable position. Gill pulled off another meaningful stand with David Miller as the duo seemed in a good rhythm for big knocks. But Sandeep Sharma gave Rajasthan Royals a breakthrough in the 16th over with Gill's wicket.

The latter went for a big shot over the long-on, but Jos Buttler took an easy catch on the boundary line to end Gill's impressive knock. But Miller managed to end Gujarat Titans' innings with a high spirit by smashing 46 off just 30, while Abhinav Manohar contributed 27 off 13.
