GUJ-W vs UP-W: Ashleigh Gardner's brutal assault leaves UP bowlers ducking for cover
Just living up to her potential, Gardner once again displayed her worth on Monday at the Brabourne Stadium against UP Warriorz.
Australia's Ashleigh Gardner is known as one of the most ferocious strikers of the cricket ball and hence has earned a reputation for herself over the years. Gardner has been incredible for Australia over the years and it was her all-round game that saw her bag INR 3.2 crore at the inaugural Women's Premier League auction on February 13.
Well, the 25-year-old charismatic all-rounder has already lived up to her price tag and that is the reason why Gujarat Giants are still in contention for a playoff finish. Just living up to her potential, Gardner once again displayed her worth on Monday at the Brabourne Stadium against UP Warriorz.
She smashed 60 off just 39 deliveries at an eye-popping strike rate of 153.84 and her stupendous knock included six fours and three praiseworthy maximums. Her batting assault brutally decimated UP Warriorz's bowling attack and their bowlers were seen gasping for breath as Gardner dictated proceedings with ease.
Gujarat Giants put out an appreciation tweet for the fiery all-rounder and tweeted,
"Ashleigh, maja aavi gayi! 💥
A brilliant 60 (39) from the #Giant all-rounder has put us on course for a competitive total. 💪
#GGvUPW #GujaratGiants #TATAWPL #BringItOn."
Gardner's quick blitz helped Giants to post 178 for the loss of six wickets in their alloted 20 overs. In addition to Gardner's quick-fire innings, it was Dayalan Hemalatha's remarkable knock that helped Giants' cause in the fixture. Hemalatha scored 57 runs off 33 balls at a majestic strike rate of 172.72. Her knock included six fours and three sixes.
The ongoing contest is a must-win affair for Gujarat to remain in the race for the playoffs, if they go on to lose then they'll be out of the competition.
