Guwahati is set to etch its name in the history of world cricket in November. The largest city of the state of Assam will become the first northeastern city to host a Test match between India and South Africa. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s general secretary, Devajit Saikia, has announced that ACA Stadium in Guwahati will host a Test during the multi-format series, set to start in November.

Out of the two Tests, the second one will be played at the ACA Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. This is exciting news for the cricket lovers in Assam as their state will get recognition in the cricket world. Guwahati's ACA Stadium has the required facilities and infrastructure to conduct an international game. Later this year, the stadium will also host 5-6 games of the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025. The tournament will start on September 24 and will end on November 2.

"No Test and World Cup matches have been played in Guwahati so far. But, as per the decision made at the BCCI apex council meeting on Saturday, Guwahati will host both of those matches this year. The Women’s World Cup will be held from September 24 to November 2. The schedule is still being finalized. Guwahati has been selected as one of the venues for it," said Saikia as quoted by News18.

The state's cricket association finally earned recognition as Test venue, alongside marking its debut in an ICC event. Despite being regularly hosting so many limited overs games for India previously, it had remained deprived of hosting any red-ball international, which is now being accomplished.

Also, ICC Chairman Jay Shah and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have had a huge role to play in this success. Saikia, who was also the former ACA General Secretary, extended his gratitude towards everyone who helped them in the process.
