Hanuma Vihari set to lead South Zone in Duleep Trophy

With the Duleep Trophy on the horizon, there are various players who will be keen on making an impact in the tournament. India’s domestic season is all set to begin with the Duleep Trophy on June 28 and will be played between six zonal teams: the North, South, West, East, Central, and North East zones. The entirety of the tournament will be held in Bangalore. 

With the tournament being just five matches long, the finalists of the previous season earned direct qualification to the semi-finals. Whereas the other four teams will be competing in the two quarterfinals. Furthermore, the winners of those clashes will face off against the West and South Zones in the semis to book a place in the summit clash of the tournament. 

Ahead of the start of the tournament, Indian batter Hanuma Vihari was named the skipper of the South Zone. Furthermore, opener Mayank Agarwal was named the vice-captain of the side, with many stars like Sai Sudharsan, KS Bharat, Washington Sundar, and many more included in the side as well. 

Furthermore, with the tournament beginning on June 28, this will be the earliest start to the Indian domestic season. The tournament will kick off with Central and East Zones taking on each other in the first quarterfinal, with the North Zone and the North East Zone facing off in the second quarterfinal. Furthermore, the final of the tournament is scheduled to begin on July 12 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. 

West Zone emerged victorious in the final of the previous season, beating South by 294 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan were the stars of the show in the previous season’s final, and it could be interesting to see which side comes out on top when the tournament gets underway soon.
