There has been widespread criticism directed towards the Indian team and support staff after West Indies took a 2-0 lead in the five-match T20I series. After winning the first T20I by four runs, Rovman Powell's men doubled their lead with a two-wicket win in the second game in Guyana and are on the brink of a rare T20I series win.
Parthiv Patel shared his views after India's defeat in the second T20I, stating that Hardik Pandya is a good captain but he needs support from the head coach, something the all-rounder gets at Gujarat Titans from Ashish Nehra. However, according to the wicketkeeper-batter, India head coach Rahul Dravid has not been proactive as a coach and his inability to aid Hardik has been detrimental to the team's progress.
"Hardik Pandya has been brilliant as a captain for GT, but over there he had support from Ashish Nehra as well. Is Rahul Dravid the proactive person or coach, which we are looking for in the T20 format? In my opinion, I don't think so. We need someone who is proactive, Hardik Pandya has that spark, but he needs that support and Rahul Dravid does not provide that for him," Parthiv said on Cricbuzz.
Parthiv Patel points out the turning point in the 2nd T20I
Yuzvendra Chahal changed the game in the 16th over of West Indies' chase of 153 runs as the star leg-spinner conceded two runs and took a couple of wickets to bring the tourists back into the contest. He got the ball to turn and the West Indies batters looked all at sea while trying to pick his deliveries.
With the home side needing 24 runs in as many balls with just two wickets in hand, cricket enthusiasts expected that Hardik would bowl Chahal in the 18th over and try to knock over the last two West Indies wickets. However, the 29-year-old kept Chahal for the 20th over and West Indies managed to finish the game in the 19th. Parthiv pointed out that not bowling Chahal in the 18th over became the turning point of the game.
"Hardik Pandya's decision to not give Chahal the 18th over was the turning point in the match. He bowled really well in the 16th over, but he did not finish his quota of four overs. So, for me, that was something that turned the game in favour of the West Indies," Parthiv concluded.
